A comprehensive exploration of structural relaxation phenomena in Sb-Se glasses

The structural relaxation behavior of Sb-Se chalcogenide glasses (Sb content up to 6 at%) was comprehensively studied using differential scanning calorimetry, viscosity measurements, and Raman spectroscopy. Three distinct types of calorimetric experiments were employed to estimate and refine the parameters of the relaxation model involving nonlinearity and nonexponentiality. Viscosity measurements in the glass transition range confirmed similar compositional dependences of the activation energies for structural relaxation and viscous flow. Raman spectroscopy provided insights into the structural changes associated with relaxation, highlighting the formation of SbSe3/2 pyramids and their effect on crosslinking within the glassy matrix. These findings elucidate the interplay between composition, thermal history, and relaxation behavior, offering predictive insights into the structure-property relationships of Sb-Se glasses.
